Man, to pick up a bike magazine or read a shop’s website you’d get the impression that professional bike fitting was a new concept. It seems like every month there’s a new article about a shop or a frame builder or a studio with a “refreshing new approach” to the “science of the bike/body relationship” or something like that. And that’s good, ’cuz it really matters. But here’s the thing - some shops have been fit-focused for years, if not decades and Velo City is one of those rare shops. Proper fit has been a cornerstone of our shop since Day 1 and always will be. When your bike has been fit to you, you ride happier, are more efficient and safer from injury. No matter what your cycling goals are, you have a better chance of achieving them when your bike works for you instead of against you, and proper fit is a big part of that. Our staff of trained Fit Technicians can work with you to make you more comfortable, faster and a better rider.

Our Head Fit Tech is Michael Clark. He still owns the Fit-Kit system that he purchased back in 1986, when it was the first one in West Michigan and it was well-nigh unheard of for a bike shop to spend 3-4 thousand dollars for a fit system. Well, 22 years, hundreds of fits and thousands of dollars later, the Fit-Kit still stands as the industry’s premier fit system and the basis of our fit program. MC is a Level 2/3 Certified Fit-Kit Technician, a USA Cycling Level 3 Coach and has also received fit training from Seven Cycles, the #1 custom frame builder in the world. He’s also trained to do Bio-Correct custom footbeds.

Our Fit Staff also includes Ted Bentley (who, in addition to Fit-Kit training, is a graduate of the Barnett Bicycle Institute’s Fit Course), Da’ve Page and Jeff Wert. Da’ve and Jeff are Fit-Kit trained as well.

Bio-Correct Semi-Custom Footbeds: $125
Improve your pedal stroke, comfort and efficiency by giving your feet the support they deserve! Even great cycling shoes come with basic thin foam footbeds and you can do better! Semi custom are just that: we start with “blanks,” assess your needs, and using a combination of heat and adhesive pads create an insole just for you.

Bio-Correct Full-Custom Footbeds: $225
For those with bigger issues (or budgets) we also offer 100% custom insoles. Working with the Bio-Correct Lab in GR, we take impressions of your feet and digital photographs and 2-3 weeks later, you have the best footbeds you ever put in your shoes! Note: All Bio-Correct footbeds are guaranteed to satisfy!

Cleat Alignment using the Fit-Kit Rotational Adjustment Devices: $60
The R.A.D.’s allow us to precisely set your cleats. A proper pedal stroke will transfer little if any rotational stress to your ankles, knees and hips, minimizing the chance of discomfort or injury. We are equipped to align S.P.D. and Look systems. You’ll need your bike, shoes and riding gear and from 45-60 minutes.
