VCC > JDRF & VCC – what’s the deal?
You won’t hang around the shop (or this website) for long before runnin’ into the letters JDRF. Here’s the scoop – “JDRF” stands for the “Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation”, our favorite non-profit. The JDRF Ride Program uses our favorite device (the bicycle) to do one of our favorite things (make the world a better place). Since 2005 our Mayor MC has been the coach of the West Michigan Team (the biggest in the country) and as of 2009 he was appointed co-National Head Coach. If that wasn’t enough – Velo City has been the exclusive Tech Support Shop for the Ride Program as well, responsible for the rider’s bikes @ the Rides all over the country.
Why? Type 1 Diabetes is a crappy deal and JDRF is the largest non-govermental source of funding for research in the world. We believe in the mission, we believe in the foundation and we’re glad to help out.
